Since 2008 I started to think about how it would be if people could see what happens in their neighbourhood, local area? I came to this question after a few years of research in energy and consequently geo-politics. Much I have learned since then, learned the world is even more complex than I knew it was.
But despite this complexity it became more and more clear people have needs that are the same, wherever you are. Take food, housing, healthcare and work to name some. When times are good people seem to care less about these basics, one spends time on “shopping” and watching “reality” shows. All fine, but this is not what interest me, never has.
My concern is what happens when energy is less affordable. This could happen if there are less resources found, the production costs go up, the financing of production falls away or for example, speculation and manipulation of the markets.
I started a project called Caloom www.caloom.com. Caloom is the name found when I put the words “Carta” and “Bloom” in an online “combine 2 words” tool.
Then a long journey started to figure out what is needed. I spoke with not-for-profits, towns, individuals, companies, government. All different stories but also much in common. Especially towns, not-for-profits (incl. associations) and micro and small businesses have a lively interaction but on the level of communication things are amiss.
They have web sites, facebook pages, twitter accounts but it became very evident their customer cannot reach the core function that well. Also, the interaction among them did not often go well. In fact parts of the infrastructure is not place.
This is what Caloom, among other things, solves. A few peope have worked together with me on this. Some have left, some have stayed. Prospect customers have stayed loyal and are waiting for the launch. I can only do so much and look therefor for a partner or the right financier.
With the right financier group we can get this off the ground and rock and roll!
